The Punxsutawney Area is more than a place to live and work — it is a community built on relationships, local businesses, community organizations, volunteers, and neighbors who care about our historical foundation and the future of our area.
As the Punxsutawney Area Chamber of Commerce, our goal is to help our community prosper for residents, visitors, and businesses. We encourage you to get involved, shop locally, meet your neighbors, and take advantage of the many resources available throughout our community.
Where Do I Start?
If You Recently Moved to the Area
A few important first steps can help you become connected to your new community:
- Connect with your local municipality. Depending on where you live, contact the Borough of Punxsutawney or your local township for information about garbage collection, utilities, permits, zoning, ordinances, taxes, and other municipal services.
- Get to know your community. Explore our downtown, local restaurants, shops, parks, churches, schools, service organizations, and community events. We have numerous flyers and information at the Chamber office, please stop by and we can guide you.
- Support local businesses. Your purchases help keep dollars circulating within our economic community and help local businesses grow.
- Get involved. Consider joining a community organization, volunteer group, civic organization, service club, or local association that matches your interests.
- Register to vote. If you are new to Pennsylvania or have moved within the Commonwealth, make sure your voter registration and address are up to date. Jefferson County’s Election and Voter Registration Office can assist with registration, polling locations, ballots, and election information.

If You Are Opening or Relocating a Business

Start with your local municipality. Before opening or making changes to a business location, check with the appropriate Borough or Township regarding zoning, permits, local licenses, taxes, signage, occupancy requirements, and other regulations.
Register your business with Pennsylvania. The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Registration provides a step-by-step process for business registration and can help identify state requirements, registrations, licenses, permits, and tax accounts.
Build your professional support team. Depending on your business, you may benefit from working with an accountant, attorney, insurance professional, banker, marketing professional, and other local service providers. Pennsylvania specifically recommends consulting appropriate legal, tax, and insurance professionals when forming a business.

One of the best ways to become part of the community is to get involved.

The Chamber can help connect you with other businesses and community leaders. If you are opening a business, consider hosting a ribbon cutting, grand opening or Chamber mixer event to introduce your business to the community.
Be sure to establish your presence online as well. Update your business information, website, social media pages, Google Business Profile, and other directories so residents and visitors can find you.
As a Chamber member you get a detailed directory that you can customize to fit your. marketing needs. We will also share your news on our social platforms and through our email marketing.

One of the easiest ways to contribute to the success of our community is to support the businesses that call the Punxsutawney Area home.
When our residents and visitors support local businesses, those businesses are better positioned to employ local people, invest in their properties, sponsor community organizations, and continue serving our area.
